Massive stars and the origin of hot gas in and around star forming galaxies
Dave Strickland
I will give a general discussion of both observations and theoretical
studies of hot, X-ray-emitting, gas in and around star forming galaxies,
both normal spirals similar to our own galaxy, and intense starbursts
with galactic winds (e.g. M82). I will discuss starburst-driven
superwinds, normal galaxy hot halos, and wind-blown bubbles and
superbubbles, with the aim of highlighting reasons for interest in these
objects, recent progress, and outstanding questions.
