The First Year of Swift Observations
John Nousek
The Swift Gamma-Ray Burst mission has just crossed its first anniversary
of flight operations. With nearly 100 GRBs now discovered by Swift, it
has carried out an exciting program of discovery which has included the
first precision location of a short GRB, the most distant GRB (z=6.3),
and discovery of fascinating early time X-ray afterglow behavior. Dr. John
Nousek, Swift Mission Director, will review these discoveries, and the
many other Swift novel observations (such as UV observations of nearby
supernovae, the X-ray and optical observations of Comet Tempel 1 after
the Deep Impact collision and the BAT all-sky survey of the 15-200 keV
sky).
